Complacency: A Threat to Corporate & National Security
To be in the comfort zone and feeling secure is the best thing in the world, right? It means you’re doing something right, and you should continue to follow that path. However, don't you want to grow in life? if you want to, then you have to step out from the comfort zone and do something different
The same is applicable for the businesses as well.
We might have seen a lot of examples of how being complacent led to terrorist attacks in various countries. Similarly, a lot of businesses around the world failed for having no intelligence-based strategies. Complacency also comes from the arrogant behaviour of top management.
Big corporations have to be on their toes all the time, leaving no stone unturned when it comes to corporate security. You have seen a lot of examples where employees working for MNCs turned out to be terrorists or were in touch with organizations involved in anti-national activities. It is a failure where companies could not keep a watch on employees and their behaviour on social media.
Corporates must conduct a vulnerability assessment and check of loopholes which may help their business rivals getting an entry into the organization. Always remember, there would not have been any terrorist attack if there were no loopholes in the system – it could be a porous border or getting help from an insider or many other factors.
A complacent attitude toward espionage could result in the disaster of the company. It is one of the most self-destructive aspects in the success of any company.
Your competitors are actively trying to deceive you, entice you to win your trust. It is easy to make mistakes and you can easily miss real threats. Your competitors are trying to get you to be complacent and if you are not vigilant, it is all too easy to break into your security.
Even if your organization has one of the best security in place but that does not make it less vulnerable. Lack of training to security staff or employees provides their adversaries with the opportunity to infiltrate in their campus, system or manufacturing facilities. Having security is not enough. How vigilant are you make a difference between a winner and a loser!
If you do not have any strategy in place then frame one before it’s too late!
